Some may remember, a while ago I was trying to find placement for an abused Cocker "sweetie" I got her a home at my sisters, who was supposed to work with her, but turned out to be a flake and she came back here, with more anxiety than before. I could give her up to a rescue, but she is so happy around the rest of our pack and my son. That I just can't up root her again. I want to take whatever necessary time and engery to help her my self. I am hoping someone may give me some advice, techniqes, links to helpful sites, ect. for working with a Cocker with no trust in adults. and Major anxiety when around people. Myself and our Vet believe she was a puppy mill machine, that was dumped. Any ideas? Thanks, Derbyan

I have been a cocker owner for 29 years and totally love them. My latest little boy came from a pet store in Colorado. Before I get blasted for buying puppies from a pet store, please take the time to consider that yes...this encourages puppy mill breeders, BUT...these puppies are already here. Not buying (or rescuing them) is NOT going to make them go away! They need help and love too. We believe that my little Buddy was a mill puppy. At pet store prices, he came complete with Round Worm, Tape Worm, Kennel Cough and a tumor. We had $1000 in medical into him in the first month we had him. Where this relates to your little Sweetie is, Buddy too is very anxious around people. He's ok to be around children, cautious of women...scared to death of men. And if a man has a hoodie or a hat on...FORGET IT! Buddies name changes to "Puddles" and he's GONE! How I am dealing with this problem is...I take him to work with me. He has my protection at all times and yet is exposed to different people all day long. If anyone wants to visit with him, they must get down to HIS level and I find this works very well. To him...SIZE MATTERS! Take your hat off...and make yourself small and non threatening. It takes a lot of time, we've been working on this for two years now, but things are improving. Doesn't it make you wonder what possess people to mistreat anything as innocent and defenseless as a small puppy? The damage they do can last a dog a lifetime.
